Devi Spring, Shakti Wicca's Founder
Devi holds a Religious Studies B.A. from the University of Toronto,
where she specialized in the Hindu Religion. Although she feels her spiritual path is not easily labeled, she's tentatively
described herself as a practicing eclectic Wiccan since 1997. She found herself called into working with the
Deities of the Sanatana Dharma by her ishtadeva, Ganesha, in early 2001.
Her heavenly guru Ganeshji led her into a more Goddess-centric practice in
2004, and Devi resonates and works most often with the Durga-Kali manifestations of Mahadevi, and the Shiva
Mahadeva. Devi continually enjoys studying the teachings of the modern Shakta saint Shree Maa and Swami Satyananda Saraswati
of the Devi Mandir.
Devi comes from a long maternal line of clairvoyants and clairsentients,
who hailed from New Orleans since the mid-1800's - many scions of whom still live there today. Drawn into the folkways
of her heredity, Devi has been studying & practicing the rural American magickal tradition of hoodoo since 2002 and has
graduated from the formal Hoodoo, Rootwork and Conjure training program with respected rootworker Cat Yronwode.
Over the years of Devi's spiritual journey, she has researched, experimented,
and practiced within many traditions ranging from ceremonial magick, Wicca, Western ceremonial magick, core shamanism, as
well as folk and tribal magick from African, Mexican and various European sources. She considers herself a perpetual student,
who is always thirsting for more knowledge and who avidly seeks it out. Devi is currently an active member of the Esoteric
Order of the Golden Dawn.
She also takes an interest in energetic and alternative healing, and
has been a Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master-Teacher since 2000. She especially enjoys aromatherapy, and vibrational medicine
(flower essences, crystal healing). She continually strives to deepen her understanding and usage of energetic healing modalities,
and has been expanding her toolbox by learning Karmic-Auric Reiki (focusing on clearing and healing traumas from this and
past lives), and the Qabalah-based Ruach Healing. She has found a great deal of use for and benefit from these modalities
in her own life, as well as those of her loved ones.
Following her formal academic religious and spiritual education at University,
Devi invoked Kali and dove into a shadow period of deep introspection, behavior re-patterning and dynamic healing, during
which she meditated on the future of her path. At the end of this incubation phase, Devi emerged with a new relationship with
Durga-Kali, a great confidence in her blended IndoWiccan spirituality and the urge to seek out and serve others of a likemind
through the founding of the Shakti Wicca tradition, and The IndoPagan Project.
In addition to moderating the Shakti Wicca & IndoPagan Paths e-group,
facilitating Shakti Wicca dedicants, and organizing The IndoPagan Project, Devi also teaches many courses in eclectic and
IndoWicca through The Lotus Academy of Spiritual Arts. Introduction to Wicca, Introduction to the Hindu Tradition and Pantheon, Intro to Mantras, The Dark Goddesses,
and Candle Magick, are just a few.
In her mundane, but never boring life, Devi resides with her common-law
partner, Banger, in Downtown Toronto where she works as a professional comedic and musical theatre actress.
